It contains oxidation and corrosion\ninhibitors, has excellent dry and wet boiling point properties, and also\nprevents the formation of vapor bubbles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friction during the braking\nprocess generates heat; some of this is absorbed by the brake fluid which must\nmeet the requirements defined in the applicable standards:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dry\nboiling point of the brake fluid with no water content [\u00b0C]<\/li><li>Wet\nboiling point of the brake fluid with water content [\u00b0C]<\/li><li>pH\nvalue of the brake fluid<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> The parameters are defined by standards FMVSS No. 116, SAE J1703, ISO 4925, and PN-EN ISO 2719: 2016-08. These constitute some of the basic criteria for determining the suitability for use. The parameters for DOT 4 Plus brake fluids are summarized according to standards SAE J1703 and ISO 4925 (dry and wet boiling points, viscosity), as well as FMVSS No. 116 (pH value). As soon as one forms, the\npressure in the brake system can no longer be maintained because the gas can be\ncompressed. The consequence is a sudden reduction in braking effectiveness\nwhich can lead to an accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hygroscopic property of\nbrake fluid is required so that any water present distributes itself evenly\nthroughout the liquid. If water collects in a specific area, the boiling point will\nlower to \u2248 100\n\u00b0C. However, if the water, for example, dissolves at a proportion of 3 %, the\nboiling point will remain considerably higher than 100 \u00b0C where the risk of\nbubble formation is significantly lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several factors affect and\naccelerate the absorption of water. These include the storage of brake fluids\nin open, unsealed packages for long periods of time, non-compliance with brake\nfluid service intervals, damaged brake system elements, or damaged\nseals\/gaskets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hygroscopic properties of\nthe brake fluid stem from the glycol content. This allows the fluid to\ngradually absorb more and more water which also means that it needs to be\nchanged on a regular basis. Vehicle manufacturers generally recommend changing\nthe brake fluid every 30,000 to 50,000 kilometers or every two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Viscosity and Other Properties<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The viscosity of a brake fluid\ndefines its intrinsic resistance to free flow at a specific temperature. Under\nthe influence of temperatures in the range of -40 to 100 \u00b0C, the viscosity of\nthe brake fluid should be as low as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A low brake fluid viscosity\nenables rapid pressure changes in the lines of the brake system. This is subject\nto the driving situation. Alongside the boiling point parameters, the brake\nfluids must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Protect\nthe interior of the brake system from corrosion with corrosion-inhibiting\nadditives.<\/li><li>Protect\nthe moving components of the brake system at high pressure and low operating\nspeeds as well as at a high operating pressure in the range between of 150 \u2013 180\nbars.<\/li><li>Comply\nwith the permissible swelling and shrinkage of rubber and elastomer\nseals\/gaskets.<\/li><li>In\nterms of their bases, they must be mixable and compatible with existing brake\nfluids and brake systems.<\/li><\/ol>\n<div class=\"shariff shariff-align-left shariff-widget-align-left\"><ul class=\"shariff-buttons theme-default orientation-horizontal buttonsize-medium\"><li class=\"shariff-button facebook shariff-nocustomcolor\" style=\"background-color:#4273c8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer\/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.febi.com%2Fen%2Fbrake-fluid-safety-in-liquid-form%2F\" title=\"Bei Facebook teilen\" aria-label=\"Bei Facebook teilen\" role=\"button\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"shariff-link\" style=\";
